In Shiozawa, Niigata Prefecture, the Aoki brewery, manufacturer of the Kakurei and Yukiotoko sakes, uses snow to air condition its warehouse.
Adjacent to the warehouse is a large hangar filled with snow during the winter. An air exchanger system keeps the temperature and humidity at an ideal level for the conservation of sakes throughout the year. In some sections of the warehouse, the temperature is even below zero degrees.
